The first month shapes everything that follows. Not because it is easy — but because realistic expectations prevent frustration.
Week 1 — Arrival and Setup
- Airport pickup and transfer to housing
- Buy a SIM card and data plan
- Institute tour and level placement
- Meet dorm mates — do not hesitate to greet in English
Do not expect instant fluency. Focus on adjusting to the schedule and environment.
Week 2 — Classes in Full Swing
Sessions become daily and structured. The most important decision: speak English outside class — in the cafeteria, by the pool, in the hallways. That beats any textbook.
Weeks 3–4 — Routine and Confidence
You learn where to eat, how to reach services, and who to ask when needed. Stay in touch with family on a fixed schedule — do not vanish, but do not stay on your phone all day either.
Keep: A paper copy of your housing contract, your institute coordinator’s number, and your address in English.
