Don’t choose a room from one picture
Housing and daily life for students in the Philippines
Accommodation is where you will sleep, study, eat and deal with entry and exit rules for the duration of your studies. Your decision between two institutions may change due to room, meals, location or restrictions, even if the course is similar.
Start with the institute accommodation and room type, then review meals, living costs, transport, safety and rules. Match every detail to the campus and dates in your quote.
Specify the campus and residence hall, not just the name of the institute.
Ask about the bathroom and services, not just the number of beds.
Review meals and rules for each campus and program.
Request a price for the specified room and dates.
Your everyday-life checklist
Seven decisions before approving housing
Start with the decision that impacts your day the most, then open the appropriate guide to review your accommodation, room, meals or budget in detail.
Start from the relationship with the institute
Institute housing
Is it on campus, in an associated building or off campus? Check the address, transport and responsible organisation.Privacy and Use
Room types
Compare single, twin, shared and family options by space, bathroom and furnishings.Part of the daily schedule
Meals
Check meal counts, serving times, holiday arrangements and dietary needs. Do not assume the same schedule applies every day.Outside program fee
Cost of living
Budget for extra food, transportation, communications, laundry, activities, and emergencies.Outside the campus
Food and transportation
Understand markets, restaurants, and access to services without generalizing one city to another.Emergency and documents
Safety and insurance
Differentiate between room deposit, health insurance, and travel insurance, and know the emergency procedure.Entry and exit
Institute rules and curfews
Request the campus and programme rules for curfews, visitors, nights away, smoking and penalties. The image is not a contract
Start with the housing model, not the picture of the room
The picture helps you understand the layout, but it does not prove availability, campus or room type. Determine the housing relationship with the institute first.
Closer to classrooms and services
It may reduce travel time, but access and use of facilities are more closely tied to institute rules.
A separate address needs a transport plan
Check the distance, method, schedule and who is responsible for maintenance and security.
Greater flexibility and greater responsibility
Review the agreement, deposit, utilities and transport. Check that your programme allows off-campus accommodation.
The unit must fit the family
Check capacity, beds, kitchen, child policy, proximity of services, and program synchronization with housing.
What actually changes?
Room types and everyday privacy
Available room types vary from one campus to another. When comparing, review the options for the campus where you will study, and confirm the type of room and its facilities in the housing offer.
| Room type | What to check | Risk if overlooked |
|---|---|---|
| Single | Bathroom, floor space, desk, noise and room location. | Paying more for less privacy than expected. |
| Twin | Bed allocation, storage, and roommate selection policy. | Difference in habits or lack of space. |
| Triple/Quad | Wardrobes, desks, bathrooms and ventilation. | Congestion and difficulty studying or storing. |
| studio | Kitchen, Equipment, Cooking and Facilities Policy. | Assuming equipment not included. |
| Family/Villa | Capacity, layout, children’s sleeping arrangements and living space. | Booking a unit that does not fit your family. |
From breakfast until returning to accommodation
Understand your day before you choose your room
Meals, allowance, transportation, and rules are repeated every day, so they may be more influential than a feature shown in a brochure.
Meals
Write down the number of meals on school days and holidays, their times, and alternatives for allergies and halal and vegetarian food.
- Are breakfast and lunch combined into one meal during the holidays?
- Does being late cancel the meal?
- Is it allowed to preserve or prepare special food?
Daily expenses
Separate out-of-pocket expenses from tuition and housing fees so that the offer does not appear to be less than its true cost.
- Additional food and drinks.
- Communications, laundry and supplies.
- Activities and emergencies.
Food and transportation
Ask about the address, distance, and usual means, and do not rely on the word “close” without starting and ending points.
- Does the institute provide a transportation service, and what are its routes and times?
- Where is the nearest store and pharmacy?
- Can you return before curfew?
Rules and curfews
Ask for written rules for the campus and program, as entry times, overnight stays and penalties are not uniform.
- School days and holidays.
- Visitors and overnight stays outside the residence.
- Smoking, alcohol and quiet hours.
Safety starts with the right information
Differentiate between security, insurance, and deposit
Ask about building security, emergency procedures, property safekeeping, and who to contact in the event of illness or accident. Then separate amounts that may have similar names.
Why must the campus be specified?
The Main and ECO Campus brochures describe different accommodation
An institute name alone is not enough. The A&J Main Campus brochure lists single, twin and triple/quad rooms; the ECO Campus brochure describes Deluxe, Premium, ECO Villas, studios and family options.

Consider the room as part of your complete travel plan. If you are travelling from Egypt (Arabic) or Bahrain (Arabic), review the starting country guide to arrange budget and application information, then match accommodation entry and departure with study and travel dates.
To arrange the request, use Study and housing application data (Arabic). If Cebu is your destination, check out Arrival list on first day in Cebu, confirming reception arrangements if included in your reservation.

Frequently asked questions about housing and daily life
Answers help you determine the housing details you request from Taa wa Seen before registering.
Is institute accommodation always on campus?
No. It may be on campus, in a separate building or off campus. Confirm the accommodation address and transport to classrooms.
Is a single room always better?
Not for everyone. A single room usually provides more privacy but costs more, and its size and furnishings can vary.
Are meals included throughout the week?
Not necessarily. Number and schedule may vary on holidays. A&J Eco Campus example showing how weekdays differ from weekends in its details.
Is it possible to cook inside the institute’s residence?
This depends on the room, campus and rules. A kitchen in one unit type does not mean cooking is permitted in every room.
Are cleaning and laundry free?
This varies between institutes and campuses. Ask how often, who provides the service, and the cost before signing up.
Is there a curfew in language institutes?
Curfew times may differ by institute, campus, study system and programme. Ask for written rules before paying.
Is the accommodation deposit the same as health insurance?
No. The room deposit may cover damages and is refundable with conditions, while health or travel insurance covers other risks.
Where can I find room rates?
within the institute page and the cost pages, provided that the campus, duration, room type, and date of the last update are mentioned.
How do I choose between individual and shared housing?
Compare privacy, cost, space, desk, bathroom, storage and roommate arrangements.
Housing is part of the offer, not a sideline
Check accommodation before choosing the institute
Select the institute, campus, start date, duration, room type, number of students or family members, and any nutritional or health needs. Then ask for written and dated details.
